Family Photographer East Hampton CT — What to Expect When You Book a Session

If you’ve been searching for a family photographer in East Hampton, CT, you’ve probably looked at a dozen websites, scrolled through a lot of galleries, and still aren’t quite sure what the experience actually feels like. The photos tell you what someone can do. They don’t tell you what it’s like to show up with your kids, your partner, or your people — and actually enjoy it.

That’s what this post is for.

I’m Kassandra Lee, and I’m based right here in East Hampton. I photograph families, couples, and individuals across Middlesex, Hartford, and New London counties. And the question I hear most before a session isn’t about pricing or packages — it’s some version of “what is this actually going to be like?”

Here’s your honest answer.

There Are No Poses. There Are Prompts.

The biggest thing that sets my sessions apart from what most people picture when they think “family photos” is this: I don’t pose anyone.

Not because I can’t — but because posed photos don’t look like you. They look like a version of you that’s holding still and waiting for someone to press a button. And ten years from now, that’s not the image you want on your wall.

Instead, I use prompts. Simple, natural things that get you moving and connecting with each other — a whisper in someone’s ear, a race to a tree, a question that makes your kids actually laugh instead of perform a smile. What comes out of those moments is real. The way your daughter grabs your hand without thinking. The look your partner gives you when they don’t know I’m watching. Those are the photos worth keeping.

You Choose the Location — Or I’ll Help You Find One

East Hampton and the surrounding area have no shortage of beautiful places to make photographs. I work with clients who already have a meaningful spot in mind — a trail they walk together, a place that’s been in the family, somewhere that just feels like them. That always makes for a better session, because the location becomes part of the story.

If you don’t have a place in mind, that’s completely fine. I’ll ask a few questions about what kind of setting feels most like you — open fields, wooded paths, waterfront, somewhere golden and warm — and I’ll suggest options that fit. Middlesex County in particular has spots that most people drive past without realizing how beautiful they photograph.

There’s no extra charge for location scouting. It’s part of how I work.

What a 90-Minute Session Actually Feels Like

Most families arrive a little nervous. That’s normal. Kids are unpredictable. Adults feel awkward in front of cameras. Nobody’s sure where to stand.

Within about fifteen minutes, that changes.

My sessions are intentionally unhurried. Ninety minutes sounds like a lot until you’re in it — and then it feels exactly right. There’s time to warm up, time to let the kids run and reset, time to get the quiet moments between the big ones. I’m not rushing you from spot to spot trying to check compositions off a list. I’m watching for what’s actually happening and making sure I’m there when it does.

Your only job is to show up and be present with the people you love. I take care of everything else.

Within two weeks of your session, your gallery is ready. I’ll reach out to schedule your reveal and ordering appointment — a personal walkthrough of your images where we look at everything together and talk through any prints, albums, or wall pieces that feel right for your home.

This isn’t a sales presentation. It’s more like sitting down with someone who was there with you and reliving the best moments of the day. Most clients find it’s one of their favorite parts of the whole experience.

High-resolution digital images with full print rights are included. Everything is delivered in a way that makes it easy to print, share, and actually use.
